SUMMARYThe Senior Accountant is responsible for assisting with the monthly close as well as applying generally accepted accounting principles while working with, and analyzing, property financial information. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe following and other duties may be assigned as necessary: - Assists with and ensures accurate and timely completion of the monthly close, including addressing any issues that may arise. Provides input for corrections and process improvements as needed.- Maintains accounting records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policy. - Analyzes and/or posts monthly recurring and non-recurring journal entries. Analyzes and/or prepares supporting work papers. Makes corrections as needed and makes recommendations for process improvement to Controller.- Initiates month-end journal entries.- Completes detailed month-end account reconciliations for the complex trial balance accounts, and reviews prepared reconciliations as needed.- Prepares monthly analyses on complex trial balance accounts.- Responsible for tracking daily banking activities and banking reconciliations.- Researches variances to budget and any unexpected movement in the trial balance.- Ensures the validity of all adjusting and accrual entries.- Monitors and analyzes the monthly activity of the payroll and benefit-related accounts.- Provides training to new and existing staff.- Analyzes financial information to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial results for Finance and property leadership.- Ensures documentation, including appropriate sign-offs, is completed for all key controls, and coordinates requests with internal and external auditors.- Assist with inter-company transactions between properties.- Responsible for the administration of fixed assets and preparation of the Roll Forward (including, but not limited to, additions, disposals, and monthly depreciation).- Responsible for completion of certain monthly and quarterly analytics.- Enthusiastically supports, actively promotes, and demonstrates superior customer service in accordance with department and company standards and programs. - Responsible for ensuring the compliance with all regulatory compliance rules and regulations within area of responsibility and reporting potential issues to management.
