Your daily responsibilities include

SUMMARY

The User Experience (UX) Designer is responsible for delivering a best in class user experience designs for Penn’s internal and external facing applications, websites, and mobile apps.  This role works with product, engineering, and business teams to understand objectives, clarify requirements, ensure technical feasibility.  This role also collaborates with internal stakeholders to deliver intuitive, compelling, and high-performing user experience designs.  The UX Designer is also responsible for the creation and socialization of journey maps, wireframes, information architectures, and prototypes as vehicles of collaboration to support an iterative design process.  The successful candidate is an active thought leader and visionary designer who participate in reshaping internal team members and external customers engage with Penn applications, websites, and mobile apps.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following and other duties may be assigned as necessary:

 

  • Actively participates in the entire UX design process from strategy to delivery. Makes recommendations for improvement as needed.
  • Promotes the use of generally accepted mobile UX design standards and effective design processes
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders to clearly understand business objectives, success criteria and feature requirements for new team member and customer capabilities.
  • Translates business objectives and capability requirements into designs that illustrate simplicity despite system complexity.
  • Creates instant tangibility of features/functions for the team and stakeholders through storytelling and rapid prototyping methods, ranging from paper sketching to digital prototyping.
  • Promotes the practice of User Centered Design processes. Makes recommendations for process improvement.
  • Creates journey maps, user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and mock-ups to convey the user experience vision
  • Participates in design sprints and workshops that include engineers, product managers and creative designers to solicit input and promote alignment
  • Works closely with front-end engineers to ensure design requirements are met.
  • Communicates and supports design rationale effectively to key stakeholders, product managers and engineers that may not possess design expertise.
  • Remains current of emerging processes, tools, and trends within the UX space and adapts to them quickly.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality in all departmental and company matters.
  • Responsible for ensuring the compliance with all regulatory compliance within area of responsibility and reporting potential issues to Executive Management.v

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Graphic Design, Computer Science, or related field from a four-year college or university; or three or more years’ creating UX designs for native iOS and Android mobile applications; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working as part of a cross-functional team in an enterprise environment is preferred.
  • Must submit a portfolio that demonstrates experience designing modern, intuitive, and effective UX designs and solutions.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point). Strong understanding of the software development life cycle with experience in systems design and implementation preferred.
  • Ability and desire to communicate conceptual ideas and design rationale to internal teams and stakeholders in a leader capacity preferred.
  • Ability to work and communicate with highly technical teams.
  • Must have advanced knowledge in all areas of user experience design including but not limited to information architecture, interaction design, and visual design.
  • Must have strong working knowledge of interaction design, user-centered experience design, digital marketing, and the creative process.
  • Must be a subject matter expert that understands digital design principles and awareness of trends in mobile design.
  • Must have extensive understanding of platform/device requirements such as form factors, screen resolutions, pixel density and aspect ratios.
  • Must have experience designing complete mobile products from concept to development completion.
  • Must have extensive understanding of mobile app UX best practices, Material Design guidelines and Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines.
  • Must be proficient with industry standard design and prototyping tools. Experience with Figma is a plus.
  • Must have the ability to drive results and be proactive when working on tasks.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in prioritization or schedules of items in the work queue as necessary.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, while meeting deadlines and being proactive when working on tasks.
  • Must have strong problem solving, organizational, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Must have excellent project and time management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Must have the ability to interact with guests, staff and colleagues and resolve problems and conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner.
  • Strong client interface and presentation skills highly preferred.
