An individual could be successful if they possess the following.

Your daily responsibilities include

  • Must enforce the Racing Commission Rules of Racing while on the racetrack, writing reports of all violations that take place while on duty
  • Must supply a sound trained horse able to perform the duties of the job
  • Leads the post parade of each live race, keeping horses in line for the parade and releasing them for "warm up" before the race
  • Aid any driver scoring down who needs assistance getting to the gate
  • Work with the starter to get horses to the gate on time for the start of the race
  • If requested, work at the appointed time for opening the track for training during training hours
  • Rides after runaway horse to aid driver regain control
  • Catches any loose horses on the track while on duty
  • Diverts drivers from competitor involved in accident on racetrack
  • Assists horse ambulance workers to remove injured horse from track
  • Must be available to work for any training or racing hours
  • Directly supervises all drivers while they are on the track
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Racing Commission Rules of Racing policies and applicable laws
  • Responsibilities include addressing complaints and resolving problems

To be successful in this position it will require the following skill set

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be an experienced rider, and have held a Ohio Racing Commission license
  • Must be able to catch loose or troubled horses while maintaining control of their horse
  • Must be knowledgeable of the Rules of Racing
  • Read, write legibly, understand and speak English
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft applications (Excel, Access, Word)
  • Must qualify for an Outrider’s licensed with Racing Commission
  • Excellent customer service/communication skills
  • Must meet professional appearance standards as prescribed by company policy
  • Must be able to respond to visual and oral cues
  • Able to work at a fast pace in often crowded/noisy environment
  • Physically mobile with reasonable accommodations including ability to push, pull, carry and lift up to 25 lbs., and the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, stack, crouch, kneel and balance when performing job duties in varying work areas such as confined spaces
